We get a lot of questions about converting kids' shoe sizes to adult size and vice-versa, so we thought we'd write a blog post about it. It's important to note that manufacturers use different lasts to construct their shoes, and sizing may vary accordingly.
Converting your shoe size from child to adult sizes or adult sizes into children's sizes gives us all more shoes to select from. For the person with a narrow shoe width, with limited options available, converting shoe sizes allows us to have more narrow shoe options to choose from.
Here are the steps:
- With our Youth Shoe Size Conversion Chart (6 yrs and up) you can easily convert shoe size beween the different systems. This chart will work fine with most shoes, but be aware that some shoe manufacturers uses different sizing systems.
- Does a shoe size of 6Y mean they are childrens shoes and wont fit adults? Wanting to order some nike runners/sneakers to australia from ebay for my girlfriend who is a size US8womens. The shoes on ebay have a sizing chart saying US SZ6.5Y (womens US8), are these right for her or does this mean they are small childrens shoes?? Any help appreciated.

- Make sure you are standing, wearing the socks or stockings you will wear with your new shoes.
- Step on a piece of paper and trace around each foot with a pencil.
- Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the length of each foot.
- The measurement of the larger foot is the one you should go by to find your proper size. We'll use the Zappos Size Conversion Chart we recommend printing the charts out first.
In the past, Zappos had Girl's and Boy's Size charts. However, children's shoe sizes are measured in the same way. Therefore they now have a Big Kid Size Chart and a Little Kid Size Chart. For the purposes of this post, we did not add the Toddler and Infant charts, however, you can find them by clicking on the link in the paragraph above.
Example #1:
Girl Youth Size 7 to Women's Size:
Go to Chart 2 Youth Sizes and look across the size 7 row in US Sizes and you'll see that a size 7 youth foot is 9.75″. Go to Chart 1 and look for 9.75″ in the Inches column. We see that 9.75″ measures somewhere in between a Size 8.5 and a 9 on the Women's size chart. You always want to fit your larger size foot and the best way to do that is to measure both feet. In this case she is in-between sizes so it would be best to order both the 8.5 and the 9 to see which size fits better.
